The Hate in the World and Remedies. To my beautiful readers, this post contains the transcribed version of the full speech I gave at the Global Village 2023 Event held at the University of Göttingen, Germany, on the 4th of March, 2023. The Global Village Event is an annual event organised by the International Student Council (ISC) in the University.

The current International Student Council, which I am part of (as at the date the event took place) was informed that the last global village event was organised in 2019, after which, the world was hit by the Covid-19 Pandemic and led to the halting of physical classes and campus activities. With everything coming back to normal and all campus activities taking place, the ISC members planned and organised the 2023 Global Village Event.

What is the Global Village Event?

Reading the introductory part of this post, you must be wondering what the Global Village Event is all about. The Global Village event is a gathering that brings together different students, communities, professors, and lots of other guests to exhibit, exchange, and showcase diverse and unique cultures from different parts of the world. Different performances were on display, from speeches, dances, poems, games, and lots more. Foods from different countries and cultures were made available on country tables and everyone had the opportunity to eat, learn, interact, and enjoy peaceful moments of diversity, inclusion, acceptance, and love.

As a member of the council, I occupied the position of the deputy speaker and treasurer, and I was asked to deliver a speech, so I chose a topic on diversity, the hate in world, and remedies.

MY SPEECH

My name is Loretta Chidinma Ngameduru, I am from Nigeria, a country in West Africa diversified by different cultures, traditions, religions, and languages. I will be speaking briefly on the topic ‘the hate in the world and remedies’.

Nawara and Chidinma (Members of the International student council 20223/2023 session)

Diversity, the hate in the world and remedies.

What is meant to make the world beautiful has created enormous chaos, deaths, and discriminations. The diversity and differences in countries, traditions, cultures, religions, ethnicities, beliefs, race, color, gender, and many other things were meant to make the world uniquely beautiful. Imagine the world with just one color, it would have been so boring. But the availability of different colors make the world pleasing and colorful. The beauty of varieties, diversity, and differences are worth embracing, for only then can we know the true benefits of beautifully coexisting in absolute peace.

Discrimination

Every single person suffers from discrimination and the hate in the world increases on a daily basis, ranging from nursing grudges, claiming rights, to craving dominance, which starts from as little as disliking a next door neighbor who might be first person to help you in the case of an emergency. Here is the shocking scenario, someone that suffers from discrimination due to their religion, is discriminating someone else for the color of their skin, someone being discriminated by a racist, is discriminating someone else based on gender and believes that others are lesser, someone being discriminated because of their gender, discriminates someone else because of their differences in cultures, beliefs, and norms.

That is why someone who just engaged a religious protest, forgets the hurt, discriminates other people because of the color of their skin, then there is a protest for racism because of the pain of being judged or marginalized due to the color of their skin, then the victim of color and race discrimination, tries to oppress other group of people because of their gender, then the protest movement for gender equality starts. It’s a cycle of hate which seems endless. All these discriminations have led to the loss of precious lives and properties, displacements, poverty, pain, sorrow, anguish, bitterness, and hatred.

We are humans first

We have forgotten that before anything else, we are humans first. Biologically, if a person urgently needs blood transfusion, all that matters to save that life is a healthy and safe matching blood type, irrespective of where the person comes from or whom the donor is. I repeat, before anything else, we are humans first. Words of the day: Kindness, Peace, Empathy, Love, Compassion, Care, and Communication.

Beauty in diversity.

Beauty in Diversity

There is beauty in diversity, and the remedies to the hate in world includes associating happily, embracing each other, loving and respecting each other, having peaceful dialogues, being fascinated about other cultures and beliefs, having the willingness to learn, understand, and accommodate the views of others. I believe that we can coexist happily if we turn a blind eye to what society tells us to do, to what we have been brainwashed to comply to. We can coexist if we accept, and if, from the first instance, we don’t see it as a problem at all. We can coexist, embrace the beauty of diversity, and understand that we need each other to make the world go round and we need to possess a free unbiased mindset.

Towards the end of the speech, I invited few persons to come up to the stage, from different countries, cultures, religions, gender, and beliefs, to embrace each other in utter and sincere acceptance, love, and peace. Because before anything else, we are humans first! Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
